ಮತಿ ನಯನದಂತೆ ಮುಂದಿರ್ಪುದನು ನೋಡುವುದು |
ಮಿತವದರ ಕೆಲಸ, ಹೆಳವನ ಚಲನೆಯಂತೆ ||
ಗತಿಶಕ್ತಿಯದಕೆ ಮನವೆಂಬ ಚರಣದ ಬಲದೆ |
ಮತಿಬಿಟ್ಟ ಮನ ಕುರುಡು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||

mati nayanadante mundirpudanu nODuvudu |
mitavadara kelasa, heLavana calaneyante ||
gatishaktiyadake manavemba caraNada balade |
matibiTTa mana kuruDu - mankutimma ||

Intelligence, like the eyes, sees what lies ahead of it
Its task limited, like the movement of the crippled.
The legs of mind equip it with the energy of motion.

buddhiprakaashadindantaranubhavashOdhe |

siddhavaa shOdeyim satyasamvIkshe ||
shuddhasatyava jIvitaprashneganvayipa |
paddhatiye dharmavelo - mankutimma ||

Luminance of intellect purifies inner experiences.
Through that purification is attained clarity of truth.
Application of pure truth to the question of life
Is itself Dharma - Mankutimma.

anubhavada paaloLu vichaara manthanavaage |
janiyikum jnaananavanItavade sukhadam ||
giNiyOdu pustakajnaana; ninnanubhavave |
ninage dharumada dIpa - mankutimma ||

In the milk of experience, when thoughts are churned
Is born the butter of knowledge which provides joy.
Like the recitation of a parrot is bookish knowledge;
Experience is your light of justice - Mankutimma
