ಜೀವಕಾರಣಮೂಲ ಗೂಢವಾಗಿರ್ದೊಡಂ |
ಧೀವಿಕಾಸದ ಬೆಳಕನಾದನಿತು ಗಳಿಸಿ ||
ಕೈವಲ್ಯಪಥವನರಸುತ ಯಾತ್ರಿಸಲೆಬೇಕು |
ದೀವಿಗೆಯು ಮತಿಯೊಂದೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||

jIvakaaraNamUla gUDhavaagirdoDam |
dhIvikaasada beLakanaadanitu gaLisi ||
kaivalyapathavanarasuta yaatrisalebEku |
dIvigeyu matiyonde - mankutimma || 

Though the source and reason of life stay secret,
Enlightened as much possible by intellectual progress
One must travel in pursuit of the path of kaivalya*
Intellect is the only guiding torch - Mankutimma


* Kaivalya is the ultimate goal of Raja yoga and means "solitude", "detachment", "isolation" - freedom from a conditioned existence
