ಬೇಸರದ ನುಡಿಯೊಳಂ ಲೇಸುಗಳ ನೆನಪು ||
ಆಶೆ ಸಾಯ್ತೆಂದೊಡಂ ಚೆಲುವೆನಲು ಕಣ್ಣಲೆತ |
ಮಾಸವೀ ಜೀವಗುಣ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||

klEsha nUraagireyumaashegaLa punarudaya |
bEsarada nuDiyoLam lEsugaLa nenapu ||

maasavI jIvaguNa - mankutimma ||

Despite hundred pains, desires keep resurfacing.
In hurting words too we are reminded of solace.
Though desire is done with, beauty attracts our sight.

Darkness behind, darkness ahead, in between restless life
To few this darkness is empty, to few it is a mystery.

Cave to the left, cave to the right, mountains in between; 
Do thou wander in the valley trusting tigers won't attack?
